Very useful light : Black & Decker BDSC-B LED Pocket Flex Flashlight with Batteries
I purchased for of these on sale and they are an excellent value.
They are strictly utility flashlights and not intended for rough day-to-day use with the inevitable drops, jostles and rough handling such use entails.
Instead, these belong in your glove compartment, on a utility shelf, in your backpack, laptop case, purse or other carrier.
The red light is handy for reading maps in a car so you don't destroy the driver's night vision or checking on sleeping children without disturbing them. The green LED also preserves night vision and is easier to read by, a handy thing when you are camping or simply don't want to disturb your bed mate.
Neither red nor green LEDs are especially bright, but they are adequate for close ranges.
The white light is fine for general purposes, whether you're illuminating a pipe under a kitchen counter, wending your way down a dark path or looking into an engine compartment in low light.
The switch mounted on the rotating head cycles through red/green/white. There's a logic there: you won't be inadvertently damaging your night vision.
The head containing the LEDs swivels 180 degrees on the vertical, which is nice, and makes the lamp quite handy. You can balance the lamp on its bottom or lay it flat on its back.
There is a belt clip, which I wouldn't put a lot of faith in, but is very handy for clipping the light to your shirt or cap or on to thin surfaces. There is also a cut-out on the clip for slipping over a screw or nail head, which is a nice touch.
The unit is powered by two AAA batteries which are supposed to power the white LED for five hours and the red and green LEDs for much longer. I don't know how long the shelf life is. The battery compartment clip is moderately robust, but you'd be foolish to ear this on your belt and risk the clip opening and the batteries falling out. Keep it in your pocket or pack if you are moving about.
Don't consider this unit for beating off a marauding bear. The construction is okay considering its price, but this a utility flashlight and nothing more.
As I mentioned, I bought four. Two are deployed in our cars and two within our household. Frankly, I wish I had bought six at the sale price. These things are handy to have around.
