A Good Tool : Surefire LX2 LumaMax Dual-Output LED Flashlight

Having owned knock-off Surefire flash lights in the past, and being frustrated with imperfections, durability, and reliability, I decided to spring for a genuine Usa made Surefire flashlight. I've read numerous reviews on how they are dependable, well finished, and most importantly reliable.

I have owned my Lx2 Lumamax for practically 6 months (with daily/extensive use) and overall I have nothing but praise for the unit. It is very compact, solidly built, and very bright. I was surprised by the blistering 200 lumen yield that shines forth from the palm sized torch; it's like a mini-spotlight in your pocket! I appreciate the two mode levels of glow depending upon how hard you push the tail cap. Although some would think the low lumen yield is a puny on the exciting side for night foresight tactical use (or what ever night foresight demands one has), I am not a "tactical" person, and I find the low yield excellent for my typical around-the-house needs. The exciting 200 lumen yield is excellent for night walks, illuminating areas where animals may be hiding, or just lighting up the garage in hopes of seeing a lost screw driver or lug nut.

The fit and stop of this flashlight is very nice. Although the color dyeing on the aluminum is slightly separate from each definite part (a common Surefire trademark) it does not bother me at all. More importantly, the batteries do not rattle in the barrel, nor do any parts wiggle undesirably. One of the nicer features not ordinarily ready on many flashlights is the "double-facing" clip, which allows the user to clip the torch to the belt in an upward or downward facing fashion; a very nice feature.

I have noticed an oddity with the Lx2 Lumamax, albeit, not very critical. As one transitions from low-beam to high-beam, there is a momentary buzzing noise that originates from the tail cap. I do not think that this is a defect, nor a guess to concern reliability, but nonetheless it is rather unsettling hearing it for the first few times. One gets used to it, and it soon becomes a sound that is unregarded.

Because I do not like reading long reviews, I will spare those with similar concentration spans to view this fast list of pros and cons:

Pros:
- Solid
- Bright
- Two levels of brightness
- Batteries do not rattle
- duplicate facing belt clip
- Few exciting parts (less things to break)
- Momentary push-on, or constant twist-on light
- Nylon polymer swiveling lanyard attachment

Cons:
- Strange buzzing noise that originates from tail cap when transitioning from low-bean to high-beam (does not seem to be a area of problem)
- Off color anodizing
- Belt clip rubs against tail cap when twisting on

Overall I would recommend this Surefire flashlight without a doubt. Although the price seems relatively higher than other models, it is clear why this torch is priced as it is. It is solid, dependable, and very bright. This is my first Surefire flashlight, and I am in effect more than happy!

Fenix Tk15 characterize : Fenix TK15 Tactical Light

I can't complain about the build ability of the Fenix Tk15. The clickie switch is good & firm. The head-mounted "dimmer" switch works well to cycle through the 4 glow levels. But, the level reflector, while aiding the light to yield superb throw, also produces the "rings of Saturn" in the beam spill, And a slightly darkened "donut" town (in the hotspot). Using in practical outdoor settings, the rings aren't much of an issue, but when lighting a wholly white area,(even at a distance) the donut in visible. I have several high-powered lights, along with a mini-Fenix, and this is the only one with that single trait.

I must also criticism that my caress with the jobber -- Ace Digital -- was very positive. The light arrived in faulty condition. It flickered when turned on, and continued to do so through on/off switchings for about 10 minutes, when it Died completely! (with fresh batteries). I contacted Ace, returned the light, and within a matter of days, had a New one in my hands again. Very good service!!

Customer Review : exquisite performance flashlight : Fenix TK45 High Performance Flashlight My first caress with a high performance flashlight was an Inova T4 (max 110 lumens or so) that I bought from a store while on a visit to the U.S. Back in 2006. I used that light uptil now and am very much satisfied with it. I stumbled over the Fenix Tk45 while checking amazon.com and was quite shocked to see the maximum yield rated at 760 lumens! (and I thought my 110 lumens T4 was bright!). I was a bit nervous about going for "Made in China" product! (well go to admitt I have a unwavering bias towards Made in U.S.A. Products, thanks to my 4 years of under-grad college life in the U.S.). Any way Tk45 was reviewed quite conveniently on both amazon.com as well as other internet forums. So I took the plunge with it, neglecting models from Surefire and EagleTac. I have had the light for two weeks. I primarily use it as personal companion in private work (I run 4 dissimilar subterranean mining operations in the Salt Range region of Pakistan). These are private rock salt mines (with mine heights of over 125 feet) and private coal mines (with mine height of 7 feet). So far the Tk45 has performed superior in these areas. I will make an observation that Tk45 is ideally considerable for tight, constrained or defined widths areas like tunnels, private mines, and maybe not that well considerable for longer range applications. Now don't get me wrong, Tk45 still has an large throw but what I mean to point out is that the beam is quite spread out and not tightly focused. So in any place with a defined width, the illumination from Tk45 in front will be 360 degrees of brightness. I have used the Tk45 on covering also at night (mind you on a moonless night it is pitch dark in these barren and scarcely populated areas of salt range in Pakistan) and it does give exquisite illumination (a hiding bandit in Salt Range at night has no opportunity to hide!). Battery life has been good, so far the sanyo enelope batteries I ordered with the light have not needed any recharging. I think using a acceptable Aa size battery for such a high powered flashlight is honestly economical. One of my problems with Inova T4 was that fact that it used three Cr123A batteries that needed transfer every four private visits for me. So that comes out very expensive. I will have to wait and see how does Tk45 behave in ultimate hot weather of Salt Range (come May, June and July) when temeperature can soar to nearby 48C (or 118F). So far in cold weather with temperatures nearby -1C (or 30F) it has performed without any issues. I did observation a bit more than general and robust build up of moisture on flashlight covering in the humid private conditions of a coal mine. It was bit more than I would call normal. May that has something to do with some definite material used in construction of flashlight as I did not have that qoute with my Inova T4. I will have to check this additional come August when the monsoon season starts here and humidity remains over 95% for whole month. Having four dissimilar yield levels is also very user-friendly as in an application like mine I dont all the time need high illumination and this sustains the battery life. I would say an exquisite flashlight, great design, superb illumination, prudent to use, expensive to buy. Well done Fenix (as far flashlights go, I can be comfortable with "Made in China").

I would advise it to others and if I have to buy another flashlight for any surmise it will be this one. Nov. 2011 Update: Flashlight still going strong. It has been dropped a few times from 5 feet and no problems. This light assuredly cuts straight through fog assuredly well, the thick stuff too, never seen whatever like it. It is very enchanting and the clip on the back comes in very handy too as I can clip to my coat and pants. After finding mine, a few of my relatives have bought one too and they love it. It is definately my go to light even with the Led Maglight, the Fenix E21 tactical light (which is also great for the size) and I also have the Led mini mag. Just a great light all around.
